These barriers were deployed in late August 2023 after Ukrainian sea drones successfully attacked the bridge on July 17. They were meant to create an impenetrable shield, but Mother Nature had other plans.

While russia will undoubtedly scramble to rebuild the defenses, it will take time, opening a crucial window of opportunity. Additionally, the storm’s fury stripped Sevastopol Bay of its similar protective barriers, further weakening russia’s position.

This setback is a significant blow to the russian military, leaving the bridge more vulnerable to Ukrainian attacks. The effectiveness of Ukrainian sea drones has been proven, and the lack of barriers makes their task even easier.
