The press service of the 5th Tank Brigade has released photos of the technical maintenance process of its vehicles, and there we can see the rare M-55S tanks received from Slovenia at the end of 2022.
Tanks of this type are rarely seen in photographs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which makes these photos from the press service of the 5th Tank Brigade particularly significant and interesting.

Thus, we can see indirect evidence that the M-55S tanks are also used to deter russian invaders.
Additionally, we can recall an episode from August 2023 when russian forces, using the Lancet loitering munition, destroyed their own T-90M Proryv and decided to turn their T-90M into a Slovenian M-55S tank.
It is also worth noting that in early January 2023, M-55S tanks from Slovenia were also captured in photos from the training of the 47th Mechanized Brigade.
We will separately remind about the features of the M-55S tanks, which are known in open access.
The modernization of these tanks, with the participation of the Israeli company Elbit Systems, was carried out by Slovenia in 1999, and the upgrades included the following.
The replacement of the gun took place – instead of the Soviet 100mm D-10TС2, a 105mm L7-type gun (similar to those used on Leopard 1) was installed. Additionally, a remotely controlled module with a DShK machine gun from Rafael was mounted on the turret. The protection was enhanced with dynamic armor from Elbit Systems.
The fire control system was improved by installing a digital ballistic computer. Laser sensors, LIRD-1A, were also installed for activating smoke grenade launchers.
