The Ukrainian Air Force used precision-guided bombs to eliminate two enemy positions critical to drone operations

In a recent operation in the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Ukrainian Air Force conducted a precision strike using guided aerial bombs, targeting russian drone command center. The strike was carried out by the MiG-29 fighter jet, showcasing the growing role of legacy Soviet-era platforms modernized for precision strike missions.

According to the Air Force, the first guided bomb accurately hit the enemy’s UAV control post. These locations are key elements in the russian command structure, responsible for coordinating reconnaissance and attack drone missions across the frontline.

A second bomb in the strike package successfully destroyed russian ammunition and fuel storage site located nearby. Such depots are essential for sustaining russian frontline operations, and their destruction directly impacts the enemy’s logistical and operational capabilities.

While exact coordinates or footage were not disclosed, the strike appears to be part of a broader trend in Ukraine’s air operations: increased use of precision-guided munitions (PGMs) to suppress high-value enemy targets with minimal collateral damage. These air-launched bombs offer an alternative to cruise missiles in scenarios requiring cost-effective precision.

The successful use of guided bombs from the MiG-29 aircraft reflects both growing technical proficiency among Ukrainian pilots and the value of Western-supplied precision guidance kits. Ukraine has received various support packages that include the JDAM-ER kits and other Western technologies adapted for use on legacy aircraft.

The Air Force acknowledged international partners for supplying these capabilities, highlighting how Western aid continues to shape Ukraine’s ability to execute complex, high-impact missions. Precision strikes of this kind reduce risk to aircrews while increasing pressure on enemy command and supply nodes.

As Defense Express previously reported, the Ukrainian Air Force successfully targeted and destroyed a russian surface-to-air missile system during a recent combat mission. The strike was executed in support of a broader fighter operation.

The attack centered around Ukrainian Su-27 fighter jet, which launched the AGM-88 HARM at the russian air defense system. The HARM missile, designed specifically to home in on enemy radar emissions, struck with deadly accuracy, resulting in the detonation of the SAM system's ammunition stores.
