Australia unveiled its largest-ever military aid package for Ukraine on July 11, totaling A$250 million (approximately $170 million), announced during the NATO summit in Washington

According to ABC News, the aid package, unveiled by Australia's Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marles, comprises guided and air defense missiles, anti-tank weapons, ammunition, and a batch of boots.

Australia's comprehensive backing for Ukraine currently amounts to A$1.3 billion ($880.6 million), with A$1.1 billion ($745.1 million) allocated specifically for military aid.

What options with guided and anti-aircraft missiles, as well as other types of ammunition, might be considered?

The Military Balance 2023 reports that the Australian Army possesses FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missile systems and Carl Gustaf grenade launchers. Additionally, they also have up to fifty 155-mm M777A2 howitzers.

Australia possesses its own NASAMS air defense missile systems. They are equipped with AIM-9X, AIM-132 ASRAAM, and AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles.

Accordingly, a moderate scenario could involve Australia allocating in this aid package the same Javelin missiles, possibly 155mm artillery ammunition, and missiles for NASAMS and AIM-132 ASRAAM to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

If we are talking about an optimistic scenario, we can note that the Australian Air Force has long-range aviation ammunition such as AGM-154 JSOW and AGM-158 cruise missiles, which would be highly valuable for the Ukrainian Armed Forces as long-range strike weapons from F-16 aircraft.
