During another missile attack on the night of August 18, russia again used Kh-101 cruise missiles with cluster warheads. According to the Air Force Command's report, the enemy launched three cruise missiles in a combined attack, all of which were shot down.
At the same time, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that in one of Kyiv's forest parks, at the site where a Kh-101 missile fell, they discovered and neutralized 60 cluster submunitions.

The service warns that after falling to the ground, they may not detonate immediately but can explode upon any contact.
Considering that these cluster submunitions are shaped like a ball about 10 cm in size and have a silver color, they may attract the attention of children. Additionally, since they fall from a missile that was flying at a speed of about 900 km/h, they can not only land on the ground but also, for example, hit and get stuck in a tree. Therefore, these "surprises" can be found not only on the ground.
It is important to note that if previously cluster submunitions could only appear in areas where battles had taken place, now the chances of encountering such explosive devices exist almost across all of Ukraine. After all, cruise missiles follow a complex route, and the enemy targets objects across the entire territory, so the threat of coming across a cluster warhead fragment exists practically throughout Ukraine.
In addition to the Kh-101 with a cluster warhead, russia also uses Kh-59 guided missiles with similar armament for strikes on Ukraine.
The 9M723 missile from the Iskander missile system is produced with a cluster warhead. There have been reports of russia's plans to develop a cluster warhead for the Kh-32 missile. Typically, russian cluster munitions are designed in either a spherical or cylindrical shape. These munitions may also include parachutes or fabric ribbons for stabilization, which are often brightly colored.
