According to court filings, Korbein Schultz was a sergeant in the US Army and intelligence analyst and assigned to the 506th Infantry Battalion.
Utilizing encrypted messaging applications, Schultz actively transmitted information regarding the russian-Ukrainian war and U.S. military aid to Ukraine to his handler, as stated in an indictment unsealed Thursday and obtained by CBS News.

"He was instructed to prioritize passing along "original and exclusive documents" to his handler, including information related to russia's war in Ukraine and the "operability of sensitive U.S. military systems and their capabilities," court documents said.
By July 2022, Schultz was sending information about High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, the type of systems the U.S. has been sending to Ukraine to use against russia. He is also accused of transmitting sensitive documents about hypersonic equipment.
Additionally, much of the military information pertains to China, particularly focusing on weapons and missile defense systems in Taiwan.
Court documents detailed a months-long exchange in which the unnamed co-conspirator asked for specific documents and Schutlz complied, selling dozens of sensitive records for thousands of dollars at a time.
According to court records, Korbein Schultz's primary motivation was financial gain, as evidenced by his receipt of $42,000 for the transfer of documents and data since June 2022. In one message, Schultz allegedly told his handler, "I need to get my other BMW back."
Sergeant Korbein Schultz was arrested at Fort Campbell in Kentucky following an inquiry by the FBI and US Army counterintelligence.
