Ukraine refutes reports of massive bomb being used in Vovchansk

Recently, there have been claims about the alleged use of the ODAB-9000 bomb in Vovchansk. These reports, however, have been refuted by Colonel Vitalii Sarantsev, a spokesperson for the Kharkiv Operational and Tactical Group. Vitalii Sarantsev clarified that the russian forces likely used a munition of lesser power and weight, and the explosion was exaggerated by russian media to create a more dramatic narrative.

The ODAB-9000 is a powerful experimental munition that was tested only once in 2007. Initially, it was designed to be deployed by strategic bombers such as the Tu-160, Tu-95, and Tu-22M3, which would drop it directly over a target. However, in modern combat conditions, particularly with the threat posed by Ukrainian surface-to-air missile systems, using this munition in the same way is virtually impossible. Such operations would almost guarantee the loss of the aircraft, making the weapon impractical for current use.

According to Vitalii Sarantsev, this could be part of an information warfare effort aimed at undermining the morale of Ukrainian defenders, intimidating civilians, and destabilizing the region.
