On May 12, the Rarog 427th Unmanned Systems Regiment released video footage documenting successful neutralization of russian Garmon radar station, an advanced ground-based system purportedly capable of tracking over 30 air targets simultaneously and identifying their origin. In a textbook demonstration of precision drone warfare, single Ukrainian kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicle penetrated the radar's defenses and inflicted a direct hit, rendering the site inoperable.
The Garmon radar is said to be designed to detect everything from manned aircraft to small quadcopters, feeding real-time data back to russian air-defense networks. Yet, despite its advertised multitarget tracking and classification abilities, the system proved vulnerable to the low-signature, high-speed attack of a single loitering munition. By exploiting the radar's predictable scanning pattern, the Rarog operators achieved surprise, underscoring the continuing evolution of unmanned tactics on the modern battlefield.

Beyond the primary objective, Ukrainian crews paid particular attention to dismantling surrounding enemy antennas. By destroying these auxiliary systems, they aimed to blind russian drone controllers and degrade the adversary's situational awareness across the entire sector.
This dual-pronged approach, targeting both the central sensor and its communication links, reflects an increasingly sophisticated Ukrainian doctrine in which electronic-warfare targets are as important as kinetic ones.
The operation not only demonstrates the 427th Regiment's technical proficiency but also highlights a critical shift: small, agile drones can neutralize high-value air defense assets once thought secure. As Ukraine continues to adapt its tactics and field new unmanned systems, russian forces will likely face growing challenges in preserving their aerial surveillance networks.

As Defense Express previously reported, on the morning of May 9, 2025, fighters of the 1st Mechanized Battalion successfully repelled and destroyed an unshielded russian assault group advancing across open terrain toward Ukrainian positions. The battalion published combat footage on its official channel later that day, illustrating the rapid and decisive engagement that unfolded.
