The Digital Transformation Ministry reveals some very exemplary statistics showing the role FPV drones play in the russian-Ukrainian war

Ukrainian Defense Forces struck down an impressive amount of military equipment of the russian invasion army this October. The statistics on russian losses inflicted by primitive aerial explosive vehicles were published throughout the month by the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov. The last piece was released yesterday, on October 30th.

The following data only includes those units that are supplied within the Army of Drones program, precisely, 17 companies of UAV operators in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard, as well as two units in the SSU and the SSSCIP of Ukraine. So it doesn't reflect the exact numbers but still indicates the general trend about how extensively FPV drones are used on the battlefield.

Overall, main types of targets destroyed or damaged throughout October 2–30 amount to:

  • 175 tanks;
  • 235 armored combat vehicles;
  • 352 artillery systems, including mortars and MLRS;
  • 243 special vehicles;
  • 591 personnel.

If we compare these data with the total russian losses over the same period of time, according to the reports of the AFU General Staff, this is how the the picture looks in percentage — FPV drones took down:

  • 36.9% of 473 tanks;
  • 30.3% of 775 armored fighting vehicles;
  • 49.5% of 710 artillery systems including mortars and MLRS;
  • 37.6% of 646 special vehicles;
  • 2.8% of 20,860 personnel.

An important note, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine uses the word "losses" whereas the Ministry of Digital Transformation says "destroyed/damaged." Therefore, there might be issues regarding the correlation of these statistical data.

But regardless, with almost 50% of the 646 units of artillery systems on count as lost to armed UAVs, the role of FPV drones in the counter-battery artillery warfare is on full display, not to mention they also put out of order third of all russian armored vehicles.
