Ukrainian forces intercepted a strike drone using electronic warfare, causing it to crash and detonate without a single bullet fired

Ukrainian border guard from the Hart Brigade has successfully neutralized russian strike drone in Kharkiv region without firing a single shot. The incident, which underscores the growing role of electronic warfare on the battlefield, was captured on video and released by Ukraine's State Border Guard Service on May 6.

According to the official statement, the target was the Molniya fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle, a type of strike drone used by russian forces for reconnaissance and attack missions. Instead of engaging it with conventional weapons, the Ukrainian serviceman deployed an anti-drone rifle, a specialized electronic warfare device designed to disrupt UAV operations.

Footage of the interception shows the operator visually tracking the drone before aiming the device and activating it. Within moments, the drone appears to lose stability, descending uncontrollably before crashing into a field. Shortly after impact, it detonates.

The State Border Guard Service emphasized that electronic warfare systems remain among the most effective countermeasures against hostile drones. Anti-drone rifles, in particular, function by emitting powerful radio frequency signals that sever the communication link between the drone and its operator. Once disconnected, most UAVs are unable to maintain controlled flight and are either forced to land or crash.

This method offers several key advantages over traditional kinetic interception. It reduces the risk of collateral damage, conserves ammunition, and allows operators to neutralize threats at relatively close range without revealing their position through gunfire. In environments saturated with drones, such efficiency can be critical.

As Defense Express previously reported, fighters from the Ares Artillery Reconnaissance Battery of the 57th Brigade have located and destroyed a rare piece of russian heavy artillery on the Kharkiv axis. Footage of the combat operation was released via the brigade's official channel.
