russian forces are deploying heavy-lift hexacopter drones on the battlefield, mirroring capabilities long associated with Ukraine's Vampire drone platform, according to reports from the front line.
The growing use of such aircraft reflects the expanding role of large multirotor drones in modern warfare. Originally employed primarily for logistics and resupply missions, these platforms are now regularly adapted for combat tasks, including the delivery of munitions and aerial strikes against frontline positions.

One of these russian hexacopters was recently intercepted and destroyed in flight by operators from the Shkval unit of Ukraine's State Border Guard Service. The engagement highlights the ongoing contest for aerial dominance at the tactical level, where both sides increasingly rely on drones to support ground operations.
Heavy-lift drones have become particularly valuable because they can transport larger payloads than conventional FPV drones. This enables them to carry supplies to isolated positions, evacuate equipment, or deliver heavier explosive charges against enemy targets.
In addition to downing the enemy drone, Shkval operators conducted a series of strikes against russian positions. According to the report, Ukrainian drone crews destroyed two enemy shelters and a field storage site used to support frontline operations.
The unit also reportedly damaged russian self-propelled artillery system. Artillery remains one of the most important assets on the battlefield, making counter-artillery strikes and attacks on supporting infrastructure a high priority for Ukrainian forces.
