Fighters of Ukraine's 1129th Regiment intercepted russian Albatros 5M UAV, one of Moscow's newer reconnaissance platforms designed for long-range surveillance missions

Ukraine's air defense forces have reportedly downed one of russia's newer reconnaissance drones, the Albatros 5M, highlighting the continued contest between emerging unmanned technologies and battlefield air defenses.

The interception was carried out by servicemen of the 1129th Regiment, which published footage of the engagement on June 2. The unit described the drone as one of russia's latest reconnaissance platforms currently employed in support of military operations.

According to the regiment, Albatros 5M system is designed for long-range surveillance missions and can reportedly operate at distances of up to 300 kilometers. Such capabilities allow russian forces to conduct reconnaissance well beyond the immediate front line, helping identify targets and assess battlefield conditions.

In a statement accompanying the video, the regiment emphasized that the drone's advertised range offered little protection against Ukrainian air defense crews.

"According to its specifications, Albatros 5M system can fly 300 kilometers. It can. But not past our crews," the fighters remarked.

As Defense Express previously reported, Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces carried out a coordinated overnight strike campaign on June 2, targeting russian air defense systems, naval assets, command posts, and logistics infrastructure in Crimea, Mariupol, and Donetsk.
