This was stated by the People's Deputy of Ukraine Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence.
The decision puts into effect the resolution of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on withdrawal from the international treaty.

Kostenko explained the need for such a step by the realities of the war with russia. "russia is not a party to this Convention and is massively using mines against our military and civilians," the parliamentarian emphasized.

He emphasized that Ukraine cannot remain limited by international obligations when the aggressor acts without any restrictions. Now the issue needs legislative consolidation in the Verkhovna Rada (the unicameral parliament of Ukraine) to finally return to Ukraine the right to effective territorial defense.
The Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction is the international agreement that bans antipersonnel landmines. It is usually referred to as the Ottawa Convention or the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Treaty.
The Convention was concluded by the Diplomatic Conference on an International Total Ban on Anti-Personnel Land Mines at Oslo on 18 September 1997.
In accordance with its article 15, the Convention was opened for signature at Ottawa, Canada, by all States from 3 December 1997 until 4 December 1997, and remained open thereafter at the United Nations Headquarters in New York until its entry into force on 1 March 1999.
The Ottawa Convention requires its participants not only to abandon the use of anti-personnel mines, but also to clear contaminated areas and destroy existing stockpiles.

After the start of russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia withdrew from the convention.
Later, Finland, which shares a border with Russia, made a similar decision - President Alexander Stubb declared his commitment to the responsible use of mines to protect national security.
