On September 9, Ukrainian Special Operations Forces' Deep Strike units struck two major russian gas condensate processing facilities – the Novy Urengoy and Purovsky plants.
Both facilities are located in russia's Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, one of the country's key oil and gas-producing regions.

According to the SOF, Ukrainian drones traveled more than 3,000 kilometers to reach the targets, extending the operation into a region previously considered a completely safe rear area for russia.
The two facilities are considered critically important to russia's gas condensate industry, processing significant volumes of condensate extracted from fields in Yamal region.
The Novy Urengoy Gas Condensate Processing Plant has a designed capacity of 19.5 million tonnes of raw materials annually. Meanwhile, the Purovsky Gas Condensate Processing Plant processed 13.4 million tonnes of gas condensate in 2025.
Both facilities are part of russia's gas condensate processing infrastructure, which the SOF identifies as an important component of russian economy and a contributor to state budget revenues.
The strikes also demonstrate the range of Ukraine's long-range strike capabilities. By reaching targets more than 3,000 kilometers inside russian territory, the Deep Strike units have shown that even distant industrial facilities can fall within the potential reach of Ukrainian strikes.
