On the night of July 5, explosions were heard in the russian city of Cheboksary, the capital of the Chuvash Republic, as a result of a drone attack. After that, security forces blocked access to the territory of the VNIIR-Progress plant, which is engaged in the production of electronic components for the russian army.
In particular, the plant manufactures the Kometa jam-resistant navigation modules (controlled reception pattern antenna, CRPA) that protect russian drones from electronic warfare systems. The enterprise is located about 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

The attack on VNIIR-Progress was confirmed directly by the head of the Chuvash Republic, Oleg Nikolayev, who reported the prompt deployment of services to contain the fire. He also stated that the enterprise was not operating after the previous strike on June 9.
According to OSINT researchers, the facility has probably suffered another hit. This is a new workshop of the enterprise, which specializes in the manufacture of navigation equipment for UAVs and missiles, as well as components for Yasen-M -class submarines, electronic control systems, industrial automation as well as other military and dual-use products.

In particular, VNIIR-Progress JSC is a manufacturer of Kometa jam-resistant navigation modules for russian cruise and ballistic missiles (3M-14 Kalibr, Kh-69, 9M723 Iskander-M, S8000 Banderol) and UAVs (Harpy-A1, Orlan-10, Lastochka-M, Kartograph, Forpost, Orion).

Earlier, on June 9, 2025, strike drones hit the workshops of the VNIIR-Progress company, as a result of which the governor of the republic announced the suspension of the enterprise's work to supposedly ensure the safety of employees.
Then the strike was carried out by two Ukrainian AN-196 Liutyi one-way attack unmanned aerial vehicles, flying approximately 975 km from the state border of Ukraine.
