Ruslan has been serving in the UAV unit of the International Legion for the Defense of Ukraine for three years. When he started, the team was still in the process of being formed

“I headed a group of operational duty officers, working not only with the infantry, but also with artillery and UAVs, although at that time there were only about 12 people there, I think. The job was to coordinate the actions of all units within the legion directly,” Ruslan recalls.

After about six months, the unit began to fill up with people and resources. People kept coming and coming. It was then that Ruslan realized that this unit was capable of working in this direction.

Ruslan, commander of the UAV unit of the 2nd International Legion: “Every second FPV hits the target”

"When we started as a small organization, we didn't need large-scale analytics or such a deep understanding of the situation at all. We had simple linear tasks, such as: “fly there, look there, hit there with an FPV drone.”

Now, with the number of people and resources we have, we understand the situation as a whole, we understand where to strike. There is full communication, even in coordination with the infantry. We give the infantry information that is true and accurate,“ says Ruslan. ”And now, in terms of effectiveness, we are improving month by month: we are hitting our targets, destroying bunkers, enemy forces, equipment, rear artillery, and so on... Two years ago, when we were still developing, we had one out of five FPV drones reach their target, to be honest. Now, almost every one reaches its target, and one out of two hits the target."

The UAV platoon of the 2nd International Legion is unique because Ukrainians serve here side by side with foreigners:

"This is a great feature. There is an exchange of experience between our guys and foreigners. They have their own mentality, experience, and strengths. They, in turn, take something from us. Overall, it's very cool, a great exchange of experience,“ says Ruslan.

According to him, today the platoon needs an analyst who will understand the situation as a whole: ”Such people must be motivated and understand why they are going to war. That's exactly what we're waiting for. Without you, this war will not end!"
