Ukrainian Special Operations Forces, working in coordination with the Black Spark insurgent movement, have conducted a covert maritime strike in the Caspian Sea, successfully hitting two russian vessels used to transport weapons and military equipment. The operation marks a rare and bold action far beyond the conventional front lines of the ongoing war.

According to the Special Operations Forces Command, the mission took place near the shores of the Republic of Kalmykia, a region where russia has concentrated logistical routes connecting its military supply chain with external partners. The targeted ships were reportedly involved in transporting military cargo on behalf of the Armed Forces of russia.

The success of the operation was made possible thanks to precise intelligence provided by members of the Black Spark insurgent network. The group delivered detailed information on vessel movements, cargo types, and logistical patterns, enabling Ukrainian forces to plan and execute the strike with high accuracy and minimal exposure.

The two vessels confirmed as destroyed or severely damaged are the Kompozitor Rakhmaninov and the Askar-Sarydzha. Both ships have long been suspected of facilitating illicit transfers of weapons and military technology, including shipments linked to Iran. The U.S. previously placed them under sanctions for their role in sustaining russia's war machine through maritime arms deliveries.

By targeting these vessels, Ukraine struck at a critical node in russia's broader supply network, one that extends far beyond its borders and relies on covert maritime routes to circumvent international oversight. Disrupting these channels undercuts Moscow's ability to replenish equipment and sustain offensive operations.

Ukrainian Special Operations Forces emphasized that such actions are part of a systematic effort to weaken russia's offensive capabilities in regions where the Kremlin does not expect resistance. Conducting operations in the Caspian Sea demonstrates Ukraine's growing reach, intelligence cooperation, and willingness to pursue enemy assets wherever they operate.

As Defense Express previously reported, Ukraine's Defense Intelligence operatives from the Prymary elite special unit have carried out another precise and highly destructive strike on russian assets in temporarily occupied Crimea. According to the report, the raid took place on December 10-11, 2025, once again demonstrating Ukraine's ability to hit key military infrastructure deep behind enemy lines.
