On the night of October 12-13, 2024, russian Tu-134 aircraft belonging to the 117th Military Transport Aviation Regiment of the Armed Forces of russia was severely damaged in a fire at the Orenburg-2 military airfield. This Soviet-era aircraft, which has long been used by the Ministry of Defense of russia for transporting high-ranking personnel, was stationed at the airfield when the devastating fire broke out.

The Tu-134 aircraft, originally designed as a civilian airliner in the 1960s, has been adapted for various military roles over the years. Its destruction at the Orenburg-2 airfield represents a significant blow, given its importance in transporting military officials. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, but the incident highlights the vulnerability of aging aircraft still in service within the Armed Forces of russia.
