The inspection of russia’s Ministry of Defense on the subject of wasting money is extremely unusual for the Kremlin and was announced at the highest government level

The Government of the russian federation has appointed a comprehensive audit of its own defense department for inappropriate use of funds. This check should be carried out in a short period of time by russia’s Federal Treasury, and the relevant order will be sent directly from Prime Minister Mishustrin.

The inspection should cover the supply of personal protective equipment, communication equipment, fuel and lubricants, repair and production of new weapons as well as military equipment. That is, the most "profitable" areas of corruption.

"I am asking you personally, I know that you are attentive to this, to deal with these checks. The point here is to ensure the transparency of the allocation of funds for all needs, so that all tasks that have been set are solved and not a single ruble is spent inefficiently," russian state media quote Mishustin's words.

Defense Express notes that in all publications of the state media, such words as "corruption" and "embezzlement" were carefully avoided. However, the listed areas of investigation directly indicate that the Kremlin is simply trying to find an answer where the astronomical funds spent on russia’s Ministry of Defense have disappeared.

It is also important to remind that in September, russia’s Ministry of Defense carried out a personnel purge, replacing the Deputy Minister of Defense for Material and Technical Support, Dmitry Bulgakov, on the third day of the partial mobilization. The probable reason was russia’s unpreparedness for the mobilization in terms of provision, and in the parliament there was information that "1.5 million sets of uniforms had disappeared."

But at that time, there were no talks about these investigations in public. Therefore, the search for an answer to the question of how russia’s Ministry of Defense stole money from the budget is a rather unusual step for the Kremlin.
