Ukraine could start accessing these funds as early as this summer

If EU member states swiftly agree on the European Commission and EU High Representative’s proposals regarding the use of funds from frozen russian Central Bank assets on EU territory, Ukraine could start accessing these funds as early as this summer.

Christian Wigand, the European Commission spokesperson, announced this during a press briefing in Brussels today, following German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s statement about 90 EU member states being prepared to use extraordinary revenues from frozen russian assets for military support to Ukraine.

Christian Wigand stated, “The new proposal suggests using these revenues to support Ukraine, initially focusing on funding for military equipment purchases and later for recovery and reconstruction efforts. Discussions on this proposal are ongoing, and we are hopeful for a swift agreement among member states to facilitate the first payments by summer.”
