On May 20, 2025, the UAZ Patriot carrying four officers of russian Akhmat unit detonated between Skadovsk and Antonivka in temporarily occupied Kherson region. The first blast obliterated the vehicle; a secondary explosion, caused by the onboard ammunition, followed moments later. All four Akhmat officers, part of the notorious Chechen-led formation within russian forces, were killed instantly.
According to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, the convoy was en route to reinforce forward positions when an improvised device destroyed the vehicle.

Although details of how the device was emplaced remain unconfirmed, the intelligence underscores that operations targeting occupation units continue in response to the many documented war crimes committed against Ukrainian civilians.

The Akhmat unit, named after former Chechen strongman Akhmat Kadyrov and staffed largely by fighters loyal to his son Ramzan, has been implicated in numerous atrocities since the full-scale invasion began. Their deployment in Kherson follows a broader pattern of using Chechen troops to intimidate and terrorize local populations.
In a brief statement, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine reminded that "for every war crime committed against the Ukrainian people there will be fair retribution".
This incident not only demonstrates the growing effectiveness of Ukraine's intelligence and sabotage capabilities behind enemy lines but also serves as a warning to all occupying forces that impunity will not be tolerated.
