The russians has established a specialized team of athletes known as the Soyuz detachment. Spearheaded by Sergey Kiriyenko, the First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, this unit comprises individuals with experience in sports competitions, particularly martial arts tournaments, National Resistance Center of Ukraine reports.
Funding for the initiative comes from state-owned entities like Rosatom and Sberbank, among others, allocating significant sums – tens of millions of rubles – for the procurement of weaponry and optical gear for use in the war. Training for the members of the Soyuz detachment is overseen by the russian Special Forces University in Chechnya.
