​Restoration of Historical Justice: Ukraine Places New Border Marker on Zmiinyi Island

The State Border Guard Service and the Defense Intelligence restored border marker on Zmiinyi Island

On August 12, 2023, personnel from the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine landed on Zmiinyi Island and placed a new border marker.

The previous marker had been destroyed by the russians during the island’s occupation.

The significant event was attended by the Head of the State Border Guard Service, Major General Serhii Deineko, and the Deputy Chief of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, Brigadier General Dmytro Usov.

“We remember everyone who liberated Zmiinyi Island, we remember everyone who liberates every piece of our land. And we will certainly reclaim all of our territory. Glory to Ukraine,” Dmytro Usov emphasized.

During russia’s full-scale invasion, border guards and servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine bravely defended Zmiinyi Island.

Part of the island’s defenders still remains in captivity of the occupiers. The Ukrainian state is making every effort for their liberation, as well as for all of our other prisoners of war.

Ukraine regained Zmiinyi Island at the end of June 2022. It became one of the symbols of Ukrainian resilience and determination to resist.

Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Serhii Deineko, referred to the emergence of the new blue and yellow marker as a restoration of historical justice.

“The next border marker will be set in our Ukrainian Crimea after its liberation by the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Serhii Deineko stated.
