The so-called head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has announced that his forces will be directed to the Belgorod region, where they will “prevent sabotage”. This decision significantly differs from the alleged intention to send the 141st Special Motorized Regiment or Kadyrovites to Bakhmut after the withdrawal of Wagner Group.
It is noted that the Zapad-Ahmat battalion will be involved in this mission, and it has already been coordinated with the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, representatives of the russian Ministry of Defense and the National Guard of the russian federation.

Interestingly, Ramzan Kadyrov first mentioned this possibility back on March 4, “reminding” Vladimir Putin about it personally through a post on his own Telegram channel. Despite such communication with the leader of russia, who seemingly does not personally use modern technology at all, the “head of Chechnya” apparently managed to find another safe and, importantly, lucrative place for his units.
The Belgorod region is considered to be a relatively developed region in terms of its economy, ranking 27th (according to 2020 data) in terms of the region’s gross domestic product out of 85 regions. To put it into perspective, Chechnya ranks 69th. This explains why this particular region was chosen rather than neighboring regions such as Kursk (ranked 46th) and Bryansk (ranked 55th).
Taking this particular aspect into account, it won’t be surprising if the Kadyrovites establish their own order in the region, including extortion, looting and the oppression of ordinary russians. In this situation, it is entirely reasonable to expect that citizens of the russian federation from the russian Liberation Movement and the Legion of Freedom of russia would need to liberate the Belgorod region from the Kadyrovites.
Meanwhile, according to the spokesperson for the Eastern Joint Forces Operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhii Cherevatyi, “elite airborne and infantry units” have already been sent to Bakhmut instead of the Kadyrovites. These units arrive in the combat zone “already demoralized, as they see the condition in which their predecessors are leaving”.
