Serhiy Zgurets, Director of Defense Express, discussed the strategic implications of russia's plans on Espreso TV. He emphasized the potential risks if russia were to establish a beachhead on the right bank of the Dnipro River.
"The russians aim to secure positions on the islands to continue their terroristic activities, including mortar fire, Mavic drones, and other UAV strikes on Kherson. While these tactics are not new, they are part of an effort to depopulate the city. The enemy's actions are predictable, and while their redeployment poses no immediate significant threat to Kherson, their terror tactics remain a concern," Zgurets explained.

russian forces have made several attempts to cross the Dnipro River in boats, targeting the islands. The elevated right bank presents a strategic advantage, making the islands a key objective for russian forces. However, Zgurets considers this strategy to be ineffective.
"Reports suggest russia is planning offensive operations involving marine infantry and airborne units, with approximately 4,000 troops amassed in the area. However, these numbers are consistent with what we’ve seen before. For now, their actions are limited to securing island positions and launching attacks across the Dnipro," he noted.
Zgurets highlighted that with proper preparation, Ukraine’s Armed Forces could turn this situation to their advantage, using it as an opportunity to destroy russia’s elite units, including marines and paratroopers.
"Some of these paratroopers have already been relocated to the Kursk region. If the enemy proceeds with these assaults, their objective is likely to force us to keep troops here, diverting them from other critical fronts," Zgurets concluded.
