Recent reports across various media outlets suggested that Iranian journalist Kurosh Sekhati had joined the International Legion for the Defense of Ukraine and was actively participating in combat operations or undergoing military training. However, the Command of the International Legion for the Defense of Ukraine has officially refuted these claims.
According to an official statement, Kurosh Sekhati did apply to join one of the International Legion’s units, but he has not been enlisted as a member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The enlistment process for foreign volunteers includes rigorous verification procedures, assessing the legality of their stay in Ukraine, their physical and professional capabilities, and specialized background checks. Only after passing these assessments can a foreign volunteer sign a contract and commence military training.

As of now, no such contract has been signed with Kurosh Sekhati. He has not undergone any military training, nor has he been deployed to the front lines or assigned any combat duties. The Command emphasized that any claims suggesting otherwise are false and constitute misinformation.
While the International Legion supports individuals from oppressed nations in their struggle against authoritarian regimes, it underscores the importance of honesty and transparency in this fight. The dissemination of false information, the statement emphasized, is not compatible with the values of democracy and freedom that Ukraine defends.
