​Ex-Commander of Ukraine's Logistics Forces Appointed As New Head of Ukroboronprom

Some details of personnel changes in the management structure of the Ukrainian defense industry

On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the parliament of Ukraine decided to appoint Herman Smetanin, who held the position of the General Director of JSC Ukrainian Defense Industry, as the new head of the Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine.

According to media reports, his predecessor, Oleksandr Kamyshin, is moving to the President's Office to work in the defense industry and infrastructure field.

At the same time, Herman Smetanin reported on his Facebook account who will serve as the head of the Ukrainian Defense Industry enterprise. It will be Major General Oleh Hulyak, who was the commander of the Logistics Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine until early February 2024.

Smetanin also briefly reported on the results of his work during his 14 months as head of Ukroboronprom.

In particular, he noted that in 2023, production at the Ukrainian Defense Industry enterprises increased by 92% compared to 2022 and amounted to UAH 82 billion.

In addition, 42 enterprises that are part of Ukroboronprom, have already undergone the transformation process. 14 of them went through the process in 2024.

"The anti-corruption infrastructure we have been building has significantly strengthened the image of Ukroboronprom as a transparent and reliable structure. Accordingly, thanks to this and the successful progress of the reform, we managed to significantly expand our partnership horizons and geography. We already have partnerships with the world's leading arms companies," the former head of Ukroboronprom and the new head of the Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine, Herman Smetanin emphasized.

Earlier Defense Express reported that Ukraine had announced creation of a ballistic missile.
