Between 2024 and 2025, the Central Military District of russia lost more than 600 troops to non-combat causes, a stark sign of deep moral and structural decay in the army

More than 600 servicemen of russia's Central Military District have died between 2024 and 2025 as a result of negligence, substance abuse, fights, and unsanitary conditions, according to recent reports from within the Armed Forces of russia. The Central Military District is one of five operational military regions forming the structure of russia's army.

In 2024 alone, at least 71 servicemen took their own lives. The situation deteriorated even further in 2025, during just the first half of the year, 86 soldiers and officers reportedly committed suicide. The growing number of suicides among russian troops reflects severe psychological exhaustion, poor command structure, and worsening morale within the ranks.

The dire state of internal discipline and living conditions also contributes to non-combat losses. Inadequate food quality in military units has resulted in 32 confirmed deaths from food poisoning across the district. These incidents point to systemic neglect and the collapse of basic logistical standards in the russian army.

Drug and alcohol abuse have become another deadly trend. In less than a year, 112 cases of drug-related deaths were registered among servicemen, almost matching the 143 recorded throughout 2024. Alcohol poisoning, overdoses, and related violent incidents continue to claim lives at a growing pace, revealing widespread indiscipline and despair.

The mounting rate of suicides, crimes, and substance abuse paints a grim picture of the russian military's internal state. Experts and military observers note that such patterns are indicative of a deeply demoralized and poorly managed force, one struggling to maintain cohesion amid heavy losses and prolonged combat deployments.

Behind the statistics lies a broader collapse of control and morale within russian forces. Commanders are reportedly unable to contain the growing wave of indiscipline, while attempts to conceal non-combat casualties have failed to prevent information leaks from reaching public and media sources.

As Defense Express previously reported, at the turn of October and November 2025, members of the Ukrainian resistance operating inside russia carried out a new wave of sabotage operations targeting the logistics infrastructure of the occupying state. According to reports, four key sites were destroyed, further disrupting the Kremlin's already strained military supply network.
