From February 7 to 8, 2025, cyber specialists from the Armed Forces and the Defense Intelligence executed a large-scale cyber operation against Gazstroyprom, a key contractor of russia’s energy giant, Gazprom. The attack also targeted 22 subsidiary companies involved in the construction and maintenance of russia’s oil and gas infrastructure.
According to intelligence sources, the operation was facilitated by a high-ranking insider within the holding company, who provided Ukraine’s forces with access to critical servers. Additionally, vulnerabilities in russian-made cybersecurity systems contributed to the attack’s success.

The cyber offensive resulted in severe disruptions, with over 120 physical hypervisor servers disabled, impacting more than 1,500 virtual machines. More than 2 petabytes of documentation were destroyed, 10,000 employee computers were rendered inoperable, and all company systems were shut down.

Preliminary assessments suggest that russia has suffered financial losses amounting to several billion rubles. This cyber operation marks yet another successful strike against russian infrastructure, demonstrating Ukraine’s growing capabilities in the cyber domain.
