The Armed Forces of Ukraine have repurposed temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Enerhodar as a strategic military base. Units from the Chechen contingent of the russian National Guard, specifically the Akhmat units (OMON and SOBR), are stationed at the plant, where they have established a substantial operational presence. Notably, the Chechen forces have even constructed a shooting range within one of the plant’s facilities, National Resistance Center of Ukraine reports.

While the russian authorities assert that the deployment of militants and their equipment at the nuclear plant is intended to safeguard the facility, the reality diverges significantly. These forces and their equipment are actively engaged in patrolling Enerhodar and suppressing the local Ukrainian population, rather than focusing on the plant’s protection.
