It is interesting that the training in the UK included a number of unusual aspects for Ukrainian soldiers we are describing in the article

The training of Ukrainian tankers on Challenger 2 tanks in Great Britain has ended and Ukraine’s Defense Munister Confirmed That British Challenger 2 Tanks Arrived in Ukraine. During the time of the training in Great Britain, the Ukrainians mastered the vehicles themselves, as well as the issues of their operation and maintenance.

In general, the training course for Ukrainian tankers in Great Britain lasted about a month and was conducted according to a special condensed program. On Monday, March 27, it was announced that the Ukrainian militarymen are already returning to Ukraine - the British Ministry of Defense announced this and published a corresponding video.

In the video itself, British instructors and Ukrainian soldiers tell how the training took place. Not only tank crew members, but also soldiers of repair units were trained.

Judging by the video, during the mastering of the Challenger 2 tank, the Ukrainian military got acquainted with a number of new elements that were definitely not known to the majority of Ukrainian tankers due to the different construction of Soviet and Western vehicles. For example, for driver mechanics, mastering the control of a tank included such an element as high-speed movement in reverse gears.

The fact is that the absolute majority of Soviet tanks have a reverse speed of 4-7 km/h. And the Challenger 2 accelerates up to 36 km/h in reverse, which allows it to quickly exit the battle without exposing its stern to the enemy's impact.

A new specialization for Ukrainian tankers is the loader, which is responsible not only for the rate of fire, but also for the selection of ammunition. Of course, simulators were used for training, and all crew members must be able to take the place of the loader - the commander, gunner and driver mechanic.

At the same time, it is necessary to be able not only to feed shells or reload a machine gun, but also to solve problems with their possible delays and failures.

Fire control is also very different from the usual process for Ukrainian tankers. In particular, the Challenger 2 tanks use a remote that looks more like a PlayStation gamepad with a characteristic cross than the control panel used in Soviet-style tanks.

In the training, simulators were used, which allowed training not only the crew as a whole, but also several crews at the level of a tank unit, where not only individual skills are important, but also the coordination of the crews of all vehicles and the expertise of the tank platoon or company commander.

Only after long-term training on simulators, where every action of each crew member was under the control of a computer and an instructor, the tankers in the crews moved on to practical shooting and training directly on combat vehicles.
