NATO has officially announced that the damage to the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, due to which they were disabled, was caused by planned sabotage. Before that, it was reported at the official level that they were put out of order, with maximum probability, by explosions.
“All currently available information indicates that this is the result of deliberate, reckless, and irresponsible acts of sabotage. These leaks are causing risks to shipping and substantial environmental damage,” NATO stated on Sept. 29.

NATO also reminded that "any deliberate attack against Allies' critical infrastructure would be met with a united and determined response".
It is worth noting that damage to gas pipelines was recorded on September 26 in the exclusive economic zones of Denmark and Sweden, but not in their territorial waters. At the same time, according to CNN, which received information from its own sources, on September 26 and 27, the actions of Russian warships and submarines were recorded in the area where the gas pipelines were damaged.
But the Russian Navy regularly operates in this area, and US officials have not yet commented on this information. The security service of Sweden has already reported that a "foreign state" may be behind the sabotage, but without specifying.
According to the publication, the biggest beneficiary of the destruction of gas pipelines is the russian federation.
Since September 26, four leaks have been discovered in the Nord Stream pipelines, which were built to carry gas from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea.
