The russian invasion army keeps trying to break through Ukrainian defense line by amassing dozens of armored vehicles in another high-pressure attack

Press service of the 79th Airborne Assault Brigade has released a video showcasing its soldiers repelling one of the largest-scale assaults attempted by the russian forces since the outbreak of the full-scale invasion. On the Ukrainian side, the destruction of the enemy equipment and manpower was carried out by joint efforts of the artillery units, attack drone operators, anti-tank weapon teams, and infantry.

The 79th brigade specified that the russians had engaged a total of 57 armored vehicles during this attack, their goal was to break through the defenses in the Kurakhiv axis. Despite such a massive force accumulated for this operation, the russian army failed, the press service notes.

According to the breakdown from the 79th Airborne Assault Brigade, successful counteractions on its part resulted in the following losses on the russian part:

  • 12 armored fighting vehicles
  • 8 main battle tanks
  • 9 motorcycles
  • one light all-terrain vehicle (buggy)
  • 36 personnel K.I.A. (and another 32 wounded).

Important to note, this is not the first time over the past few weeks that russian invasion army has tried to overwhelm the Ukrainian Defense Forces with a significant number of tanks and armored fighting vehicles concentrated in one decisive assault on Ukrainian positions.

For instance, on July 24, the same 79th brigade released footage showing another assault of the same caliber, with 57 armored vehicles involved, including 11 tanks, 45 other armored units, and one Terminator tank support fighting vehicle. The attack was also supported by 12 motorcyclists, the total men count reaching some 200 troops.

That time, the russians stormed the Ukrainian positions from several directions at once, but thanks to effective aerial reconnaissance and fire adjustment provided by UAV teams, Ukrainian artillery and bomber drones managed to thin out the enemy numbers. No less credit should be given to the sappers, who contributed to the elimination of many threats by planting mines in advance.

In total, six tanks, seven AFVs along with their crews, were struck down. All the 12 motorcycles participating in the assault were destroyed, too. The russian manpower losses in that assault amounted to 40 personnel, plus 37 wounded. More details here.

Still, the russian forces did not stop assaulting the positions of the 79th Brigade, but with smaller groups. On July 25, the brigade reported an attack by three tanks and 13 AFVs, during which one tank and one armored vehicle were damaged, and one BMP infantry fighting vehicle was destroyed beyond repair.

A few days later, on July 28, the 79th thwarted another assault attempt with three BMPs advancing covered by one tank. The MBT was blown up on mines, and one of the BMPs was destroyed by an FPV drone operator, so the others were forced to flee.
