The russian Navy’s presence in the Black and Azov Seas has become increasingly sporadic, while in the Mediterranean, its operations are centered on relocating assets from Syria. This was reported by the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk.
According to Dmytro Pletenchuk, russian warships are actively escorting transport vessels as they withdraw military equipment from bases in Syria. The relocation effort involves transferring assets from Khmeimim and Tartus to Africa, where Moscow continues to support authoritarian regimes aligned with its geopolitical interests.

“Syria has been a key logistical hub for russia’s operations in Africa, where it maintains significant influence. Units that were once part of the Wagner Group remain active there, and they still require logistical support,” Dmytro Pletenchuk stated.
Russia’s shifting naval priorities indicate a strategic recalibration, with its fleet avoiding potential threats in the Black Sea while reinforcing its presence in regions where it seeks to maintain control and influence.
