Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance identified russian Irbis counter-battery radar, prompting the system to maneuver and change its position after being spotted

Ukraine's 43rd Brigade has detected russian Irbis counter-battery radar and passed its coordinates to adjacent Ukrainian units for further action.

The brigade released footage of the operation, showing Ukrainian reconnaissance drone tracking russian radar system after spotting it.

According to the brigade, the system began maneuvering and changing its position after being detected by the Ukrainian drone. However, its coordinates had already been transmitted to neighboring units, allowing them to act on the information.

The brigade did not specify whether the Irbis radar was subsequently struck or destroyed.

The Irbis system is a relatively new russian counter-battery radar. Russian sources first publicly reported its use in the summer of 2024.

The system is designed to detect mortar, tube artillery and multiple-launch rocket system positions by tracking the trajectories of incoming or outgoing munitions, then transmitting the calculated coordinates to russian firing units.

According to specifications published by russia, the system can also detect aerial targets at distances of up to 150 kilometers. This capability gives the system a broader surveillance role beyond locating artillery positions.
