russia unveils $2000 UAV with dual roles in reconnaissance and attack

russian Dominanta company has introduced its new loitering aircraft-type drone named Shturm-ST, aimed at bolstering the capabilities of the occupying forces. According to russian media, the drone is notable for its low production cost and simplified design.

The Shturm-ST drone is constructed using compressed foam coated with fiberglass, a choice that reduces manufacturing expenses. Its production cost is reported to be 200,000 rubles (approximately $2,000). The drone boasts a flight duration of up to 60 minutes and a payload capacity of 5 kilograms, enabling it to conduct reconnaissance missions or serve as a kamikaze drone in combat scenarios.

Russian sources claim the drone has been tested in environments with electronic warfare systems, though its effectiveness remains questionable. Observers have pointed out that the drone appears to be built primarily using Chinese-made components, raising questions about its resilience and overall reliability.

While the Shturm-ST drone reflects efforts to produce cost-effective military solutions, its actual battlefield performance and utility remain to be seen. Such developments further underscore the ongoing trend of employing inexpensive, mass-producible UAVs in modern warfare.
