The Polish portal Defence24 cites unofficial information, which was also published by the Italian resource Milano Finanza, according to which Italy offered to transfer to Poland 12 to 16 Eurofighter fighters in the Tranche 1 version

Both sides do not officially confirm the fact of such an offer. But Defense24 claims that the military and political leadership of Poland rejected such a proposal, because they are not satisfied with the type of fighter, its characteristics, or the context in which this proposal was made.

To begin with, as we can understand from the text, the Poles are initially not satisfied with the fact that Italy is offering the transfer of Eurofighter instead of MiG-29 Poland to send to Ukraine. Although Great Britain initially promised to give Poland combat aircraft instead of Soviet fighters. And now the British say that they did not enter into negotiations with the Poles on this issue.

Also, according to unofficial information, Poland is not satisfied with the type of aircraft, which makes the whole proposal irrational. The Tranche 1 version of the Eurofighter is not an "air superiority aircraft", its strike capabilities are limited to the use of guided aerial bombs.

Along with high operating costs, Warsaw considers this type of fighter jets "irrational", because even if it is possible to obtain aircraft of this type at a "symbolic" price, the costs of maintenance and operation will be high. And this despite the fact that now the Polish Air Force has to build a vertical "from scratch" to service two other types of aircraft - the F-35 and the South Korean FA-50.

On their own, the authors of Defence24 add an already standard proposal - if Western countries have "free" aircraft, it is better to use it immediately so that the Armed Forces of Ukraine start switching to Western-style aircraft.

But from Defense Express, we would like to emphasize separately that Ukraine needs modern multifunctional combat aircraft, primarily American F-16s.
