The United Kingdom and Norway have announced a joint initiative

It was announced that the UK and Norway will co-lead a Maritime Capability Coalition that will offer a blueprint for the development of Ukraine’s Navy. The re-building effort has begun with the UK providing new ships and equipment.

The UK and Norway will provide the country with 20 Viking amphibious vehicles, 23 speedboats and 2 Sundown class minehunters.

The announcement was made by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and will be formally presented at a ceremony in London on December 11, attended by both the British and Norwegian defense ministers.

These new additions will significantly enhance Ukraine’s ability to:

  • Deploy troops and equipment on beaches and other coastal regions;
  • Conduct patrols and reconnaissance missions in coastal waters;
  • Launch swift attacks against enemy forces.

The Viking amphibious vehicles are particularly well-suited for these tasks, with their ability to navigate both land and water with ease. The speedboats, meanwhile, offer unparalleled agility and speed, making them ideal for various tactical operations.
