The TOS-1A Solntsepyok Heavy Flamethrower System was developed based on the TOS-1 Buratino and entered service with russia’s ground forces in 2000.

Both the TOS-1A Solntsepyok and TOS-2 Tosochka heavy flamethrower systems were publicly unveiled on June 25, 2020. The Solntsepyok is capable of striking targets at ranges between 3.6 and 6 kilometers, depending on the missile type, with a destruction area covering 1,000 to 2,000 square meters. Its operating principle is a thermobaric explosion, similar to the effect of a vacuum bomb.

The TOS system includes two variants: the TOS-1 (equipped with 30 tubes of 220 mm) and the TOS-1A (equipped with 24 tubes of 220 mm). Both versions are mounted on T-72 tanks and use unguided 3.7-meter-long rocket-propelled grenades.
