Operators of the Phoenix border guard unit have carried out a successful series of strikes targeting russian military equipment, according to an official report from the Unmanned Systems Forces. The operation reportedly resulted in the destruction of several high-value enemy assets, including tanks, the BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket system, and two types of specialized equipment: rare radar station and robotic ground vehicle.

One of the key achievements of the strike was the elimination of the Garmon 1L122 compact radar station, which was used by russian forces to support their air defense operations. The radar’s destruction not only removes a surveillance asset but also weakens the broader russian anti-aircraft network along the front.

Despite russian efforts to protect their vehicles using makeshift armor, often called "mangals" or grill-like metal structures, Ukrainian drone operators were able to either completely destroy or heavily damage much of the equipment. These improvised defenses have become a common field adaptation among russian forces, but their effectiveness appears limited against precision drone strikes.

Among the other targets destroyed were russian tanks and BM-21 Grad MLRS system, a widely used artillery platform responsible for saturating Ukrainian positions with rocket fire. Taking out this platform helps reduce the intensity of indirect fire attacks in contested sectors.

An important aspect of the Phoenix unit’s mission was to disrupt russian logistics. The report notes that operators identified and destroyed a ground robotic platform used by russian forces to transport ammunition to the front line. The use of such systems illustrates russia's efforts to reduce soldier exposure in logistics roles, but their loss hampers resupply efforts under fire.

This engagement highlights the evolving role of Ukraine’s drone and reconnaissance units, particularly those under the Unmanned Systems Forces command. The ability to strike enemy assets deep in their staging areas and support zones indicates improved intelligence, surveillance, and real-time targeting capabilities.

As Defense Express previously reported, Ukrainian border guards from the Pomsta Brigade are pioneering the use of interceptor drones to defend the skies from russia's growing aerial threat. These systems have become critical as hundreds of enemy aerial targets, including reconnaissance drones, operate over Ukraine every second, particularly in front-line areas.
