Ukrainian drone units are intensifying efforts to disrupt russian logistics and suppress enemy drone operators on the Zaporizhzhia axis, underscoring the growing role of unmanned systems in shaping the battlefield.
According to Mykola Kolesnyk, commander of the Luftwaffe 422nd Regiment, the unit is actively targeting supply chains and supporting broader operations of Ukraine's forces in the sector.

Among the most notable reported successes is the destruction of russian Buk surface-to-air missile system, along with multiple depots containing fuel and weapons. Such targets are considered high-value, as they not only provide immediate tactical gains but also complicate longer-term resupply efforts.
In a particularly significant strike, drones from the regiment reportedly intercepted and destroyed two locomotives that were transporting fuel, ammunition, and other supplies. Targeting rail logistics represents a deeper level of operational reach, potentially affecting supply flows well beyond the immediate combat zone.
Mykola Kolesnyk said the regiment is directly involved in counter-battery warfare and systematic disruption of russian logistics. By striking key nodes such as ammunition depots, fuel storage sites, and transport assets, the unit aims to degrade the enemy's ability to sustain operations along the front line.
Despite these successes, Mykola Kolesnyk emphasized that the regiment's primary mission remains countering russian drone operators. The proliferation of unmanned aerial systems on both sides has made control of the airspace at the tactical level a decisive factor in modern combat.
He noted that without achieving at least a relative balance in the air, ground operations become increasingly difficult. Unchecked enemy drone activity can disrupt troop movements, expose positions, and render offensive actions ineffective, highlighting the necessity of constant pressure on opposing drone units.
As a result, Ukrainian forces are focusing not only on destroying physical assets but also on maintaining continuous engagement with enemy drone operators. This approach reflects a broader shift in warfare, where dominance in the drone domain is becoming as critical as traditional air superiority.
