On September 22, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed strikes on russia's Bashneft-UNPZ, also known as the Ufimsky oil refinery as well as the Kuibyshev oil refinery.
"Overnight on September 22, 2026, Ukrainian forces struck two key facilities in russia's oil refining industry," the statement reads.

In Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan, the Bashneft-UNPZ oil refinery was struck, with a fire reported at the site. Meanwhile, in Samara, Samara Oblast, the Kuibyshev oil refinery was hit, and a fire was reported at the facility.
The Bashneft-UNPZ has an annual crude oil refining capacity of approximately 7.5 million tons. It conducts refining of crude oil as well as produces gasoline, diesel fuel, heating oil, liquefied gases, sulfur, and other petroleum products.
The Kuibyshev refinery is part of PJSC Rosneft. It has an annual crude oil refining capacity of approximately seven million tons. The plant produces gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, and more than 30 other types of petroleum products.
As noted, the products of both refineries are used to meet the needs of the russian military.
