Operators of the Hornet drone unit from Ukraine's 3rd have destroyed two russian air defense systems, the Buk-M2 and the Buk-M3.
Ukrainian drone operators detected and struck the two systems, which form part of russia's layered air defense network. The loss of both systems could reduce Moscow's ability to protect its troops and important military infrastructure from Ukrainian aerial attacks.

The Buk-M2 is a medium-range surface-to-air missile system designed to engage a range of aerial targets, including aircraft, cruise missiles and unmanned systems. It remains an important component of russia's ground forces air defense.
The Buk-M3 is a newer version of the system and is considered one of the most modern air defense platforms operated by russia's ground forces. Its destruction therefore represents a particularly significant loss compared with the elimination of older air defense assets.
According to Ukraine's 3rd Regiment, strikes against systems such as the Buk-M2 and Buk-M3 have significance beyond the immediate tactical effect. Removing individual air defense systems can create gaps in russia's layered network and make other military assets more vulnerable.
The regiment said the destruction of the two systems could make it more difficult for russian forces to protect their troops and critical facilities. Reduced air defense coverage can also create more favorable conditions for Ukrainian aircraft, strike drones and artillery to operate.
