Chad, with modernized Ukrainian BMP-1U infantry fighting vehicles in its arsenal, showcased new russian VPK-Ural armored vehicles — likely reflecting the country's current course

The Ukrainian BMP-1U infantry fighting vehicle with Shkval module and the russian VPK-Ural armored vehicle, also known as Spartak, took part in the same parade. This is not surprising, as it was a celebration of Chad's Independence Day.

Footage from the event shows several armored vehicles belonging to this russian family. However, they are not listed in the Military Balance data, suggesting this may be a new equipment delivery.

In addition, Gladiator and Spartan armored vehicles from the Emirati company Streit were also present. In other words, the parade showcased new equipment in the country's arsenal alongside some familiar models.

Various off-road vehicles used for military purposes have been spotted, including Israeli RAM Mk3s and French Panhard AMLs. Chad's armored vehicle fleet is quite diverse, sourced from different parts of the world.

As for the BMP-1U, it is a Ukrainian upgrade of the Soviet BMP-1, familiar to many through its delivery to Georgia. During the russian invasion of the country in 2008, some of these vehicles were captured and used during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the russian federation.

However, the BMP-1U was also supplied to Chad, where, according to Military Balance, 42 of these armored vehicles are currently in service. It is worth noting that the Shkval combat module is a key feature of this modernization.

In addition, this is not the only Ukrainian-made armored vehicle in the country. Chad is known to use 12 BTR-3E wheeled armored personnel carriers equipped with the Shturm combat module.

Overall, the large presence of russian equipment at the parade signals Chad's rapprochement with the russian federation. At the same time, the country also receives weapons from China, reflecting trends across the African continent.
