Ukrainian forces have successfully employed the M1A1 Abrams main battle tanks during combat operations in Pokrovsk, marking a notable episode in the use of Western-supplied armor on the eastern front.

According to available information, units of the 425th Regiment advanced into the city using the Abrams tanks transferred to Ukraine by Australia. The breakthrough was carried out from a highway leading toward the western part of Pokrovsk.

The operation demonstrated the continued relevance of heavy armored platforms in urban and semi-urban combat, particularly when supported by proper planning and battlefield adaptation.

Before deployment, the Abrams tanks were modified to meet the specific conditions of the war in Ukraine. The vehicles were equipped with additional anti-drone protection, reflecting the growing threat posed by loitering munitions and FPV drones on the modern battlefield.

These upgrades reportedly proved effective, allowing the tanks to maneuver under hostile conditions and maintain combat effectiveness during the breakthrough operation.

As Defense Express previously reported, Ukraine's Security Service has disclosed new details of a special operation in the russian port of Novorossiysk, confirming that the destruction of russian submarine was preceded by a successful strike on a key anti-submarine aircraft.
