The "eyes" of russia's most advanced air defense system were neutralized in a nighttime drone strike

In the early hours of September 30, Ukraine's Special Operations Forces struck high-value russian air defense asset in temporarily occupied Crimea. According to official reports, a radar station belonging to the S-400 Triumf surface-to-air missile system was destroyed.

The radar is one of the most critical components of the S-400 system, serving as the "eyes' of the system by detecting aerial targets and guiding interceptor missiles.

Without it, the entire system is rendered blind and incapable of carrying out its intended function.

The strike is particularly symbolic, as the S-400 system is touted by russia as one of its most advanced and expensive air defense systems. Designed to counter aircraft, cruise missiles, and even drones, it was neutralized by the very type of unmanned systems it was meant to defend against.

This is not the first time Ukrainian forces have targeted the S-400 systems in Crimea. Previous operations have damaged or destroyed launchers and other components, gradually eroding russia's integrated air defense capabilities on temporarily occupied peninsula. Each successful strike further undermines Moscow's claims of total control over Crimean airspace.

As Defense Express previously reported, Ukrainian forces have reported another successful strike against russian artillery, this time targeting rare North Korean-supplied systems. Operators of the Unmanned Systems Forces destroyed four Koksan self-propelled guns in operations across Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia regions.

The mission was carried out by soldiers of the Nemesis 412th Regiment of the Unmanned Systems Forces. Using reconnaissance and strike drones, they identified and engaged the artillery pieces. One of the targets was eliminated in coordination with other units of Ukrainian forces, highlighting joint operational effectiveness.
