The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has released a new operational update on the situation on the Ukrainian frontlines as of 06:00 on May 20, 2022.
Russians continue offensive operations in the Eastern Operational Zone in order to establish full control over the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and maintain the land corridor with the temporarily occupied Crimea. Here are the key points of the report:
The invaders continue to use terror tactics against Ukrainian civilians in the temporarily occupied territories. In particular, they prevent the evacuation of people from the Kherson region to the territory controlled by Ukraine. Russians refuse to open humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of children, elderly, sick people, and deliveries of food and medicine into the occupied territories.
In Mariupol, russians are actively restoring the city port. Demining of port infrastructure is being carried out.
The intense fire continues also in the south, in the Mykolaiv and Kryvyi Rih directions. Russians deployed additional barrel and rocket artillery there.
An active offensive was recorded in the Donetsk direction. In the region, russians try to cross the Siverskyi Donets River in two operational directions at once: Slovyansk and Lyman directions. Additional deployment of pontoon equipment and personnel was spotted in the latter.
General Staff expects deployments of additional forces in the Kharkiv direction as well.
In the Sloboda direction, russians focused mainly on defending the occupied positions.
