​Ukraine’s Air Defenses Intercepted 32 out of 58 Missile and Drone Threats During a Coordinated Assault

Kyiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions were the focus of russian assault

russian occupation forces launched a coordinated overnight assault on Ukraine on September 2, targeting the regions of Kyiv, Sumy and Kharkiv using a combination of various missile types and drones. The Air Force Command provided detailed information on how their air defense units responded to this attack.

During the assault, 58 targets were identified, including 35 missiles and 23 drones. The Shahed-131/136 drones were launched from Primorsko-Akhtarsk. The Ukrainian Air Force units and mobile fire teams successfully shot down 20 of these drones, while 3 failed to reach their targets.

Regarding the missile threat, the majority were identified as the Iskander-M or KN-23 ballistic missiles, launched from three locations within russia. Of the 16 missiles fired, 9 were intercepted.

The enemy also launched 14 Kh-101 cruise missiles from the Tu-95MS strategic bombers, with Ukrainian forces successfully intercepting 13. The remaining missile did not reach its intended target. Additionally, four missiles were fired from the S-300/S-400 systems located in Belgorod region, with one missile’s type remaining unidentified.

Overall, Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepted missiles and drones across six regions: Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia.
