Operators of the 25th Brigade of Ukraine's National Guard have destroyed russian Molniya unmanned aerial vehicles used as motherships for smaller first-person-view drones. The brigade published footage of the combat operation on its official Facebook page.
According to the brigade, russian Molniya UAVs can carry FPV drones and serve as launch platforms for additional reconnaissance and strike missions. This allows russian forces to deploy smaller drones closer to their targets.

Footage released by the brigade shows Ukrainian operators striking russian Molniya UAV carrying two FPV drones. One was configured for reconnaissance, while the other was intended for strikes.
Using mothership drones allows russian forces to extend the operational reach of FPV drones by transporting them over longer distances before launching them toward their targets. This approach can reduce the need for smaller drones to cover the entire distance from their launch points.
The Molniya is russian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle used for various battlefield missions. In addition to carrying warheads for direct attacks, the platform can be adapted to transport smaller drones, expanding its potential role in reconnaissance and strike operations.
