In the early hours of November 17, russian forces launched one of the most extensive missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian territory, targeting the country’s critical energy infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the assault resulted in both fatalities and injuries.
Preliminary assessments revealed the scale of the attack: approximately 120 missiles and 90 drones were launched, amounting to around 210 aerial threats. To counter the strikes, Ukraine employed a multi-layered defense strategy. Mobile air defense teams, electronic warfare units, surface-to-air missile systems, and combat aircraft ,including Su, MiG, and F-16 fighters, were mobilized to neutralize the targets. According to Monitor, the attack is one of the most concentrated missile attacks, spanned two hours, while the drone assault persisted for over ten hours.
Reports suggest that russian forces deployed a wide array of advanced weaponry, including the Kh-101, Kalibr, and Kh-59 missiles; Iskander-M ballistic systems; Kinzhal and Zircon missiles. In addition, long-range strike drones, including the Shahed types, and decoy drones such as Geran were utilized in the operation.
